Chat MFA
This month I had a little help with my blog. My son has been raving about the ability of Artificial Intelligence and its ability to change how we approach writing and art–among other things. So, I decided I would give ChatGPT a try and see what it came up with. I entered the prompt, “unique features of Michigan’s forests “and this is what it came up with.
Michigan’s forests have a unique combination of coniferous and deciduous trees due to its location at the transition zone between northern boreal forests and southern temperate forests. Some of the unique features of Michigan’s forests include:
- Michigan’s forests have a diverse mix of species, including white pine, red pine, hemlock, white cedar, red oak, sugar maple, and beech, among many others.
- The state is home to the largest stand of old-growth hardwoods in the eastern United States, the Seven Islands State Birding Park.
- Michigan’s forests provide habitat for a wide range of wildlife, including black bears, wolves, moose, and bald eagles.
- Michigan’s forests are home to several rare or endangered plant species, including the Eastern Massasauga rattlesnake, and the Michigan Monkeyflower.
- Michigan’s forests are also home to several rare insects, including the endangered Hine’s emerald dragonfly, and the Kirtland’s warbler.
Overall, Michigan’s forests are unique in their diversity of species, wildlife, and ecological features, making them an important and valuable resource for the state and the region.
Pretty impressive for a computer, although AI seems to have a bit of trouble identifying what is a type of plant vs. creature and insect vs. bird. Not to mention, the Seven Islands State Birding Park is in Tennessee!
Luckily, humans are still necessary to get the facts straight! Now, what about the art? I put in the same prompt I used for the paragraph and this wondrous picture is what it came up with:
Not bad for a computer!
I would like to thank ChatGPT and my son, Barrett, for the inspiration for this blog.
